What is Nexium about?

Nexium is a 3D space shooting game with the aim of being fun to play, with high intensity action.
It has a unique gaming mechanic allowing the player to hover anything and making the game fun and not too punishing.
The game takes some ideas from classic retro shoot'em up such as Battle Squadron, Goldrunner or Xenon but gives it modern take. The game is infused by Amiga culture from the 90s (games and demo scene) as well as movies such as Star Wars or animes such as Cobra space adventures or Captain Future.

In this game, you will experience ultra-fast action with:

• a unique gameplay mechanic allowing you to hover almost anything (land, asteroids, etc.)
• a great sense of speed and freedom to explore an open world
• exhilarating space battles
• intense laser shooting and satisfying explosions
• landing on multiple planets to explore

The premise

Time date 3025,09,3 quadrant 42
The dark forces of the Barrax empire appeared from the depths of the unknown.

After a few decades, the peace in the galaxy was shattered.

The Barrax forces have rapidly conquered planets, disregarding any form of life, solely driven by their desire for a rare crystalline substance known as Nexium.

The empire seeks to exploit Nexium crystals to dominate the entire galaxy as it holds the key to inestimable energy and enables interdimensional travel.

You are the last hero to dare fighting the Barrax empire and its oppressive grasp.

Game play / Controls

Nexium is best played using gyroscope sensor on android phones (virtual joypad is currently supported). The game might be ported in the future to other platforms and other types of controllers. Until better tutorial being implemented within the game, here is a summary of the controls.

• gyroscope for orientation
• press on the right side for turbo
• press on the left side for lasers
• double tap on the left for bombs
• short device flip for quick U-turn

Here is a more detailed explanation of these controls. First, there are 2 modes of flying the spaceship in this game:

• Free flying in all direction, using the gyroscope for orientation right/left up/down
• Hovering over any object like land, asteroids etc. In that mode, the spaceship follow the surface automatically and the user controls the direction right/left.

You can change from one mode of flying to the other doing the following:

• to go from free flying to hovering, it is as simple as getting close enough to the surface of the object. The spaceship will not crash and just hover automatically.
• to go from hovering to free flying, just requires a double tap on the right side of the screen. The ship will then take off.

further controls:

• the turbo is engaged by pressing on the right side of the screen. There is no limit on using the turbo.
• Shooting lasers is performed by pressing on the left side of the screen. There is no limit on using lasers.
• Shooting neutron bomb is done by double tapping on the left side of the screen. There is no limit on using bombs, apart from the fact that there must enough energy available which takes some charging time.
• Quick U-turn can be performed by doing a short flip movement with the device .
